HOUSTON, TX – Youth-Reach Houston receives a $1,000 donation from Woodforest Charitable Foundation in support of helping damaged and delinquent children.
Founded in 1984, Youth-Reach Houston offers a fresh start for kids by operating a series of Christian foster group homes in Northeast Houston. This program is designed to remold the values and turnaround the lives of at-risk youth ages 12-21.
Youth-Reach Houston is committed to addressing the mental, physical, and spiritual needs of this generation’s hurting young people. It is an effort to reach and teach homeless, damaged, and troubled young men skills that will enable them to be successful in today’s society. Youth-Reach Houston uses the accredited PACES program from The School of Tomorrow to educate the young men which allows Youth-Reach to offer a quality education without the distractions. The staff of Youth-Reach Houston addresses the central issues that lead today’s youth to harmful actions such as drug addiction, promiscuity, rage, and violence. Underneath the rebellion and defiance is a need for security, acceptance, and discipline. Not only does Youth-Reach Houston facilitate emotional healing and healthy relationships, but practical skills for daily living as well, such as housework, auto maintenance, carpentry, and personal care. Youth-Reach teaches self-control and character development.
Since 1984, Executive Director Curt Williams has been personally involved in the lives of 2,200 young men who have made Youth-Reach their home. With a success rate of first time residents at 43%, it is important for Youth-Reach to define “success.” For a young man to be deemed a success, Mr. Williams waits until they have successfully completed the program and have been away for a year. At that time, the young man is evaluated with three questions: Are they free of addictions? Are they enrolled in school and/or gainfully employed? Have they re-offended the law? If the young man is free of addictions, gainfully employed or in school, and have not committed any crimes; Youth-Reach deems their time in the program a success.
“We are truly thankful for your assistance and encouragement. Thank you for your support of the work of Youth-Reach Houston,” said Curt Williams, Executive Director of Youth-Reach.
