LORAIN, OH – Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio recently received a $1,135 donation from Woodforest Charitable Foundation. 

Founded in 1982, the Food Bank’s mission is to gather and provide resources to hunger-relief agencies serving individuals and families in Crawford, Erie, Huron and Lorain counties.  Their mission is to gather and provide resources to hunger-relief agencies serving individuals and families in Crawford, Erie, Huron and Lorain Counties.

Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio recently earned a 4-Star Charity rating from Charity Navigator. Charity Navigator is America's largest independent evaluator of charities and the premier independent evaluator providing in-depth, objective ratings and analysis of the financial health of America's largest charities. Second Harvest earned four out of a possible four stars indicating the organization adheres to good governance and best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way.

According to a new report by Feeding America, one in four children under the age of five is food insecure in Ohio. To provide assistance for this alarming statistic, the Food Bank offers a Back Pack Program for children in their service area. The mission of the BackPack Program is to help alleviate child hunger by addressing the lack of food resources on weekends and holidays for children who are at-risk for hunger through the provision of groceries for them to prepare and consume at home.
