DALLAS, Texas – North Texas Food Bank received a $5,000 contribution from the Woodforest Charitable Foundation.  The donation will provide funding for its Kids Café and Food 4 Kids programs.

Founded in 1982, the North Texas Food Bank is a hunger relief organization that distributes donated, purchased, and prepared foods through a network of 1,146 feeding agencies in 13 North Texas counties.  Each dollar donated to the Food bank provides four meals for hungry citizens.  Last year, the Food Bank provided access to 37 million meals through its efforts.
The North Texas Food Bank also fights hunger by focusing on underserved children.  The Food Bank accomplishes this by supporting its Kids Café and Food 4 Kids programs.  The Kids Café provides a nutritious evening meal to children enrolled in after-school programs established by Food Bank member agencies.  Kids Café serves 1,000 children 2-3 meals per week during the school year at an average cost of $1.14 per meal.  Last year 140,000 meals were served through the Food Bank’s 27 Café sites.

The Food 4 Kids program provides kid-friendly, self-serve food for elementary school children at risk of going hungry over the weekend.  Currently serving over 200 schools in 17 school districts, the program provides food every weekend during the school year to approximately 4,400 children in the greater Dallas area.  “Many individuals and families are turning to the North Texas Food Bank for help for the first time in their lives.  Your contribution makes it possible for us to help provide food for hungry individuals and families in our community,” said Jan Pruitt, President/CEO of North Texas Food Bank.  “Woodforest Charitable Foundation’s gift will truly make a difference!”
