COLUMBUS, OH – Mid-Ohio Foodbank recently received a $5,290 donation from Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

For 32 years, Mid-Ohio has been working with grocers, food companies, Ohio farmers, the USDA, and community partners to obtain food and distribute it to more than 550 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, after-school programs, and senior housing sites across central and eastern Ohio. Their mission is simple, to feed hungry people by collecting and distributing food products, educate the community about hunger, advocate for hunger relief programs, and collaborate with others who address basic human needs.

As a member of the nation's largest non-governmental, domestic hunger relief organization, Feeding America, the Foodbank’s goal is to make food accessible to hungry people in their greatest times of need. Mid-Ohio Foodbank distributes over 40 million pounds of food each year, enabling its partner agencies across 20 counties to provide food for more than 100,000 meals each day.  The Foodbank’s efforts help stock the shelves of food pantries, soup kitchens and emergency shelters throughout central and eastern Ohio.

To address the thousands of children in Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s service area that rely on free or reduced-priced school lunch, the Foodbank designed a BackPack Program that offers children free food on weekends to ensure they have nutritious meals when school in not in session. In the last 12 years, the BackPack program has grown to now serve over 900 children at 30 after-school sites.

“Thank you for your generous gift. Because of you, Mid-Ohio Foodbank will be able to deliver more food, especially fresh produce, to food insecure individuals and families living in central and eastern Ohio. The food they receive will provide nourishment and hope in their time of need,” said Matt Habash, President & CEO of Mid-Ohio Foodbank.
